The life of an influencer is one of exposure, consistent content creation and online engagement. In his life, the delineation between private and public are blurred and often are lost altogether.

Interface is a purpose-built home for an influencer whose main activities include YouTube videos, Twitch streaming and TikTok dancing. The space is organised so as to provide scenic backdrops for him to utilise in his content, as well as ample space to do his work. That being said, an internet celebrity still requires time away from the voyeuristic eyes of the public, and so the house includes spaces where he can retreat from social interaction and unwind in enclosed solitude.

This house is situated in inner city Sydney, amidst the urban chaos and density. In a way, the house pays homage to its surrounds in its north and south facades, emulating the narrow verticality of terrace housing. The house has within in two axes of thresholds. As one moves from left to right there is a binary established between inclosure/exposure. Meanwhile, moving from bottom-up there is a transition to increasingly secluded spaces in the activities.

The thicker walls of the left enclosure space for different reasons per floor provides a sense of security, safety. The right-most rooms all feature some form of exposure to the influencer, inviting in elements of the outside world both physically as well as virtually. Indeed, in a horizontal version of Koolhaas’ vertical urbanism, the form reveals the triptych space of the house; solid roof for the enclosed space, then the open-air rooftop for the exposed space.
